The science of sleep: how to regulate your sleep with CBD

It is no question that sleep is vital to our mental and physical health. It is a basic human need, and our ability to function and feel well on a daily basis while we are awake depends on whether we get enough sleep, enough of each type of sleep, and whether we are sleeping at a time when our body is prepared to sleep.

If not, we’re basically walking zombies deteriorating our health.

But honestly, how vital is sleep to our everyday lives? We know that if don’t get enough sleep, we’re headed towards having a day where we’re going to be groggy for the rest of the day, but what effects does sleep deprivation have in the long run?

The Importance of Sleep to the Human Biology

When you get your regular 8 hours of sleep, your brain is preparing for the next day, processing information and forming new pathways to help you learn and retain information. A good amount of regular sleep improves learning, problem-solving, attention, creativity, and affects overall mood.

Now for lack of sleep? Studies have also shown that sleep deficiency alters activity in some parts of the brain, resulting in trouble making decisions, solving problems, controlling your emotions and behavior, and coping with changes. Not only that, but sleep deficiency also has been linked to depression, suicide, and risk-taking behavior.

Think that sleep is just tied to your mental health? Sleep also helps the body in a myriad of ways for growth and the body’s basic biology. It’s involved in healing and repairing your heart and blood vessels, maintaining the healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin), affects how your body reacts to insulin and blood sugar levels and helps support healthy growth, development, and fertility. Not only that, but deep sleep triggers the body to release the hormone that promotes normal growth in children and teens, and boosts muscle mass and cell repair.

Lastly, your immune system relies on sleep to stay healthy. This system defends your body against foreign or harmful substances. Ongoing sleep deficiency can change the way in which your immune system responds and if you are sleep deficient, you may have trouble fighting common infections.

The Demand For Hustle Over Sleep

Today, humans are more interconnected with each other and have unprecedented access to information than any other time in history. Our minds are constantly being interrupted by online notifications from friends and strangers and overloaded with information about things we should or should not be doing. Stimulation overload that’s keeping us up at all hours of the night.

Our work environments are also changing. Gone are our the days of the 40-hour workweek and the regular 9 to 5. With the influx of a new entrepreneurial creative economy, many of us juggling multiple hustles at a time, learning various skills in a very short amount of time to maximize our productivity, further blurring the line between a work/life balance. We are demanding a lot from ourselves and it’s no surprise that most of us have a hard time turning our minds off at night.

It’s important to note that busy is not sustainable, and driving ourselves to the point of insomnia to be productive is not actually productive.

OK, I’m definitely not getting enough sleep. What do I do?

If you have problems sleeping or have overextended yourself with side hustles, you are not alone. While the ever-evolving and advancing technology, changing work environments, and the fast pace of our society has led us to great achievements, it has also led to an increase in reported insomnia. Approximately 1 in 4 Americans develop insomnia each year, 10% of which are likely to have chronic insomnia. (Source 1.) Most people with these problems go undiagnosed and untreated. Due to insomnia, more than 40 percent of adults experience daytime sleepiness severe enough to interfere with their daily activities a few days each month (Source 2).

Paymon B.
“First time trying something like this and it really does work. It has helped a lot with sleep along with allergies. I would defiantly recommend trying!”

Alexandra D.
“I may not be completely sold in general by the miracles of CBD, (Unfortunately, I think my sleep issues and anxiety may be too severe for CBD alone...) HOWEVER. I have tried many different oils and tinctures and edibles. None of those made ANY difference at all. The method of delivery that the Qwin uses has been the most successful for me out of all CBD delivery systems I have tried. The biggest difference I felt was their CBDRx blend. It's definitely "strong", so I would recommend at first what the Qwin website suggests, to take a hit and wait fifteen minutes before taking another. I can handle a lot more and it definitely helps me get to sleep.”

“This vape pen is the best I’ve used so far for CBD. Great flavors and the first time I really enjoyed CBD. I get better sleep at night and even blazing it through the day it helps keep me zen’d out. It’s solid!”
